About North Yorkshire

Supported Volunteering Network

For Voluntary, Community and Social Enterprises (VCSEs) that rely on volunteers to provide their services throughout North Yorkshire.

Our History

In 2019 several workshops were organised to look at supported volunteering across North Yorkshire. COVID-19 meant the project was paused. In 2023 HCA received funding from Stronger Communities and The National Lottery to progress the work (albeit with a fraction of the original budget…)

In September 2024, we launched our North Yorkshire Supported Volunteering Network website to members and the general public who will benefit from useful resources on how best to support their volunteers that would, in turn, improve recruitment and retention levels for all organisations who rely on volunteers in providing their services.

Supported Volunteering in Context:

  • Person-centred, strength-based

  • Providing levels of support appropriate to the individual

  • Suggests opportunities based on interests and capabilities

  • All volunteers are valued for their contribution

Project Aims

To increase diversity of opportunities and diversity of those who volunteer.

To engage with and provide support to organisations with supported volunteering programmes in North Yorkshire

To provide a co-ordination point for knowledge development and sharing and develop a suite of useful information/guidance (a toolkit)

To create a network of hosting organisations, to provide a space to share experience and learning, and to develop best practice

To improve sustainability of volunteering

To make the wellbeing benefits of volunteering accessible to all.
